Executive Director
Position Description


Grounded in an international human rights framework, the Women's Institute for Leadership Development (WILD) for Human Rights engages individuals and communities to advance Social Transformation. Through innovative education, advocacy, and training, WILD for Human Rights challenges systems and institutions to end identity-based discrimination through the leadership of women and girls.

Ten year since its inception, WILD for Human Rights is searching for an Executive Director to lead the organization and to advance the agenda of human rights domestically and internationally. The organization's primary constituency in the US is women, especially women of color and young women. WILD for Human Rights will continue to position itself as a "thought leader" that deepens and expands the human rights analysis framework; advocates for the implementation of human rights standards at all levels of government; establishes meaningful partnerships for maximum impact; and continues to strengthen the leadership of women ages 18-35 who will be the next generation of leaders in the social movements.

The Executive Director will be responsible to lead the organization in the following ways:

Strategic

Articulating the vision of human rights and implementing an action plan to meet stated goals and outcomes;

Developing and establishing partnerships with innovative and progressive organizations and networks to advance the human rights agenda;

Contributing to the building of the movement for human rights at the local, national, and international levels;

Representing the organization at the national and international levels with advocates, policymakers, donors, and others with potential influence;

Mobilizing resources and creating new revenue streams for the sustainability of the programs and organization.

Analytical

Leading on the analysis of a paradigm for human rights through research, synthesis of best practices, and assessments;

Creating new tools for the practical application of the human rights framework that will also be accessible to a diverse group of people;

Implementing a dissemination and communication strategy that will include trainings, publications, reports, web-based tools, print media, and other innovative means to reach out to a broad constituency.

Management

Reporting to and serving as a liaison with the Board of Directors;

Supervising a team of professionals to bring the organization to the next level;

Establishing a presence in the east coast;

Ensuring financial compliance and due diligence for record keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated commitment to human rights and ending discrimination on race, gender and/or sexual orientation;

Demonstrated commitment to working with communities of color, with women and young people of diverse backgrounds;

5-10 years in management and / or leadership position;

Successful track record in fundraising and organizational sustainability;

Evidence of analytical and research skills which may include prior publications;

Training and / or education experience;

Skills and experience in public policy, advocacy, coalition and /or partnership building;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

Solid reputation and experience working in domestic (U.S.) and /or international arena;

Knowledge of U.S. political systems, international institutions, including the UN system;

Bilingual/multilingual skills;

Sensitivity towards other cultures and backgrounds, including economic or social class background;

Ability to travel.
